How do I know it's the sewer and not one slow fixture?
Several fixtures backing up at once, or a gully overflowing while ordinary water runs inside, points to the main line. One slow sink on its own is usually a branch problem.
Why does the sewer play up after heavy rain?
Major rain can surcharge the sewer here. The low ground beside the wetland sits saturated through big events, so pressure from outside pushes back up the line until the weather clears.
Do roots grow back after the line is cleared?
They can, where the entry point is left unrepaired. Cutting the roots gets things moving again, but a camera run afterwards shows whether a joint or junction needs a permanent fix.
Will clearing the blockage mean digging up the yard?
