Why drains fail differently in this pocket
Three things about this pocket shape almost every drain job we do here, and none of them apply to a suburb on heavy clay inland.
The sand
The water table
The catchment
The roots
Drainage services in Jewells
Each page below covers one type of drainage job in full: what causes it here, how we clear it, and what it costs to get right.
Blocked Drains Jewells
Sand-choked lines, root-cut pipes and slow fixtures cleared with the coil or the jetter, quoted before work starts and finished on the first visit wherever the blockage allows it.
Blocked Sewer Jewells
Gurgling drains, yard smells and waste surfacing get the sewer line cleared properly, then inspected on camera so the cause is known and not just the symptom treated.
Blocked Stormwater Jewells
Downpipes and yard drains that back up in heavy rain get cleared and checked against the fast-responding swamp catchment, ready for the next downpour rather than the last one.
CCTV Drain Inspections Jewells
A camera down the line shows the exact cause and location of a blockage or a slow drain, so repeat problems get a real fix instead of another temporary clear.
Hydro Jetting Jewells
High-pressure water scours sand, grease and root mass off the pipe wall and flushes it clear, with pressure matched to the pipe material we find on the job.
Drain Emergencies
Waste backing up into a home or a surcharged drain flooding a yard crosses from drainage into emergency territory, and that page covers the drop-everything response and the after-hours callout.
How we clear a drain here
The method follows the blockage, not a fixed routine. We start with what the symptoms tell us, confirm with the gear, and quote before the clearing starts.
The coil.
The jetter.
The camera.
Sand is the local wildcard. A jetted line on sandy ground stays clear longer than a coiled one, because jetting flushes sand out rather than pushing it down to settle again.
That difference matters more here than in most suburbs, and it is why the jetter gets more use on this run than the coil does.
The catchment problem: stormwater, sewer and the wetland
A serious downpour here does not trickle away politely. It surcharges.
Two things happen when it hits. Stormwater lines fill faster than they can drain, so water backs up into yards around the low-lying homes on the wetland side of the suburb.
At the same time, the saturated ground and runoff can pressure the sewer system, and waste can start coming up where it should never appear.
- A yard drain that copes with ordinary rain can still fail in a catchment-wide downpour, so we size and clear stormwater with the big events in mind.
- A sewer line with cracked joints lets groundwater in during heavy rain, which is why some sewer blockages here arrive right after storms.
- Regular clearing before the wet months costs less than an emergency callout during one.
If your yard has flooded more than once, a CCTV inspection of the stormwater line tells you whether the problem is your pipes or the land. That answer decides what is worth spending money on.

The drainage difference here is diagnosis. Anyone can push a coil down a pipe and get water flowing for a fortnight; finding out why it blocked, on this sandy ground beside the wetland, is what stops the repeat.
Streets we drain, and the suburbs beyond
We drain houses and units across the suburb, from the villas around the retirement community off Ntaba Road through to the streets running back toward the Belmont Wetlands State Park side of the boundary.
Regular stops. Homes near Jewells Plaza and the tavern, properties backing the wetland, and the older brick-veneer stock through the middle of the suburb.
The same crew also answers drainage calls in the adjoining suburbs, so a blocked drain never needs a different company because of a boundary line:
If your street is not named, ring and ask. The drainage run covers the whole postcode.
Where drainage meets the rest of the trade
A drain problem often drags other plumbing along with it, and the crossover work stays with one crew:
Each gets quoted as one job rather than three.
Storm damage is the other crossover. A surcharged drain that pushes water into a home can leave burst flexi hoses behind, and the emergency plumbing page covers that response.
When a hot water unit in a flooded laundry needs attention after the water is gone, the hot water hub takes over.
Drainage questions we hear often
Why do drains here block with sand when my last suburb never had this problem?
The ground is sandy coastal soil beside the dunes and wetland, so fine sand works into drain joints and cracks that clay soil never opens. Drains slow over months rather than stopping dead.
What is the difference between a blocked sewer and blocked stormwater?
Sewer lines carry waste from toilets, basins and kitchen, so blockages show as slow drains, gurgling or a yard smell. Stormwater carries rain off the roof, so blockages show as pooling during rain.
Do you need a CCTV inspection before clearing a drain, or is that only for repeat blockages?
Most blockages get cleared first and camera-checked afterwards if the cause is not obvious. A camera earns its cost on repeat blockages, suspected cracked pipe, or before renovation work on the drain.
Will hydro jetting damage the old earthenware pipes in a 1970s house here?
Jetting is safe on sound pipe at the pressures we use, and we match nozzle and pressure to the pipe material. Cracked joints get flagged on camera before anything is forced.
My yard floods near the wetland side every heavy rain. Is that a council problem or a plumbing one?
Both can be true. The flood-prone catchment pools in big events, but a yard that floods in ordinary rain while the neighbours' stays dry points to a blocked or undersized stormwater line.
How soon can you get to a blocked drain, and is same-day possible?
Often yes, same-day where the schedule allows. Waste surfacing or water entering the house moves a job up the list; a plain slow drain gets the next regular slot.
